Immigration and Customs:

Pattern profiling and mapping
Immigration officers, investigators and lawyers can use the KS family of products for pattern profiling search to assist in finding and exchanging information on incidents and cases. Millions of documents can be searched instantly using the pattern profiling features of PatternScape. If information at ports of entry reside in a distributed server topology PS can search and map an incident through the entire distributed platform. These information maps provide immigration and customs officers with identifiers of patterns in behavior, statements and observations. Markers and traits form patterns, which are useful for locating recurring and co-related breaches. The central feature of the pattern profiler is to co-relate records of similar behavior, traits and cases. This same notion is true in repeated crime. Incident and case repositories can be searched to find that similarities in a suspect's statement are propagating across inter-related incidents. Repeat criminal profiling and alias identity matching are thus possible.

Similarities and differences are presented as variants in ClusterView, thereby helping the user to track and find a short list of likely relating traits and profiles, or indeed, persons. Behavior mapping of repeat criminal activity is the result of search and ClusterView information mapping. These similarities and differences can be used for investigative profiling, identification and apprehension. Likewise it is also possible for the user to find related cases that support and dispute claims.

Example: You are observing the behavior of a person at a port-of-call, and you decide to record your observations into SpeakScape. The system converts the recording and compares it to the case and incident repository. PS will present closely related and inter-related records suggesting a history of repeat evidence and observations. Whether observations are typed, scanned or recorded; PS can help map them to find inter-relationships, identities and aliases.

Crawling, indexing, and transforming cross platform information into searchable assets
CrawlScape is used to crawl and index multiple folders, data resources, digital reference materials, incident and information assets. The immigration and customs official can benefit from accurate profile and pattern mapping of situations and events across many disperse institutional and national databases by deploying search sites for specific use.

An Intranet deployment utility and visualization portal
ScapeShape is an Intranet file sharing utility with a visualization framework for deploying browser-based web and Intranet sites. It is a multi-zone portal for:

  • Searching documents and files within its network
  • Communication discussion groups
  • File sharing and control under the extensive Intranet deployment utility
  • Co-existence search pad for common terms
  • RSS (news) feeds
  • Public announcements and advertising
  • Top activity zones
  • Paperless office user interface
  • Speak to text (voice notes) user interface

With these systems, it is possible to deploy unique Intranet Search sites for every department or specialty in a firm. This is made possible with the integration of an automated crawler, pattern profiling search, and ScapeShape Intranet deployment utility.

Visualization, communications, collaboration, and site deployment
In order to make information visually powerful the user is provided automated site deployment with ScapeShape. Thus the professional can create a variety of visual sites for investigation and collaboration. This technology can be used for discussion forums, search, file sharing, current event news, identification and apprehension announcements. In an instant, a site can be deployed to utilize information and intelligence repositories, communicate with fellow immigration authorities, and advise on news and current events. Building a folder system for use by the team for collaboration and file sharing is one simple yet powerful feature. Forums can be added for team updates, training and security management.

Paper and voice conversion, and knowledge base inclusion
The conversion and collating features of SoftPaperScape and SpeakScape can be employed for transforming physical assets (reports, observations, decisions, and consultations) into searchable transcribed documents. These resulting assets are useful for building or adding to knowledge and information repositories. Both systems transform scanned documents or voice recordings into searchable assets for use in ScapeShape. Large documents are broken into searchable parts while long recordings are split into snippets for efficient review. All this is done automatically by SPKS and SPS. Handwriting and voice-transcription can be merged to allow for indexing these types of documents. Thus handwritten documents can be converted and indexed for use in information repositories.
